Also known as Anthemis, Roman Chamomile, Anthemis nobilis, English Chamomile, Anthemidis flores, Flores chamomillae Romanae.
The cold infusion is reputed stomachic; the hot infusion diaphoretic (1 to 2 fluidounces), and emetic (5 to 12 fluidounces); the oil carminative. The cold infusion may be used in gastric debility, with flatus; the hot infusion to relieve colds due to sudden cutaneous chilling, and in dysmenorrhea to check pain and facilitate the flow. The oil may be employed for a like purpose, and for intestinal cramps and colic due to flatulency. Anthemis is little used.

Therapy. This agent in hot infusion is emetic, a stimulating diaphoretic, and it promotes the menstrual flow when suppressed from cold. It is of little importance, in the writer's opinion, as we have so many other agents with wider and more positive action.
Action, Medical Uses, and Dosage. Tonic, emetic, antispasmodic, emmenagogue and epispastic. The cold infusion or extract may be substituted, as a tonic and antispasmodic, in all cases, for the foreign article. The extract may be used in sick headache, and in convalescence from fevers. A warm infusion may be used as an emetic or diaphoretic. It has been efficient in amenorrhoea. The fresh plant bruised and applied to the skin, will cause vesication, and the sores heal readily. A powerful epispastic is made by preparing the fresh leaves of M. Cotula, and Polygonum punctatum, equal parts, and moistening them with a small quantity of spirits of turpentine. Dose of the infusion, from 1 to 4 fluid ounces, as often as required.
Action, Medical Uses, and Dosage. (See Anthemis.) A useful preparation in the bowel troubles of dentition. Dose, 1 to 2 fluid ounces, smaller doses being given to children. It is emetic when warm; tonic and nervine when cold.
