protects-heart-during-chemotherapy. Pretreatment with Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (200 mg/kg/day) reduced acute doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in rats by lowering oxidative injury, decreasing serum creatine kinase, and improving conduction abnormalities, without diminishing the chemotherapy agent's antitumor activity.

safety-and-interactions. Goji berry is regarded as essentially nontoxic with no signs of toxicity on extensive testing, though occasional nausea or stomach upset occurs; caution is advised with warfarin (bleeding risk), antidiabetic and antihypertensive drugs, and CYP2C9 substrates, and use is not recommended in pregnancy or lactation.

supports-ocular-health. Lycium is traditionally valued for vision and modern work supports retinal benefits: its polysaccharides reduced VEGF and improved blood rheology in a rabbit model of retinal neovascularization and preserved lens transparency in diabetic cataract models by activating SIRT6 to promote autophagy and limit apoptosis; the berry is among the richest dietary sources of the retinal carotenoid zeaxanthin.
