Action and Therapy. Galium is a useful refrigerant diuretic in fevers and inflammations, and to relieve dysuria with pain and scalding or burning in the urethra or neck of the bladder. It may be used as a sedative diuretic in scarlet fever. It is undoubtedly alterative and may be exhibited in scrofulous disorders, but has been unwisely claimed as a remedy for carcinomatous growths. Galium tinctoria is aromatic and has been recommended in the spasmodic cough of asthma and chronic bronchitis. The best use for these drugs is as diuretics.

Therapy. A sedative remedy in acute inflammation or irritation of the urinary tract. Given in fever it impresses the temperature favorably, stimulates the excretion of all urinary constituents and the fever is shortened by its use. It is given for its general tonic influence upon the urinary tract. An infusion is the most active form. It is useful in dysuria if from acute inflammation, and it is an excellent remedy for suppression when nephritis has occurred from septic causes. It is useful in strangury in vesical irritation from uterine disorder and in the cystic and prostatic irritation of old men.

Properties and Uses. This herb is a peculiarly soothing relaxant, acting upon the kidneys and bladder. It secures a goodly increase of the watery portion of the urine, thus rendering this secretion less irritating than it sometimes gets to be.
